ABIAKUM MACBETH The Market Place II – THE LAW OF DEMAND John 16:24 Hetherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Lesson aim: To encourage brethren to ask of the Lord all that they need in the name of Jesus

Introduction The Market Place could simply be referred to as a place where people go to buy or sell. The Law of Supply and Demand therefore determines who gets what and at what value. In today’s study, we will examine how this law could be applied to our spiritual lives.

In our previous lesson, we talked about the law of supply and some of its basic assumptions:
1.      Suppliers are always ready to supply their products to the market
2.      Suppliers are always willing to supply when demand is high
3.      Suppliers are reluctant to supply when demand is low
4.      Suppliers will cease to be in the market when there is no demand for their products

According to our text, the bible makes it explicit clear that we have not received because we have not asked. We have not made our demands or place our orders.

Things we are allowed to ask from the almighty God are our NEED and not WANTS. Examples of our need: healing for the sick, food for the hungry, help for the helpless, strength for the weak, money for the poor, rest for those cumbered with loads of care, deliverance for the oppressed, freedom for the captives, safety for the unsecured etc).

If God was to supply us our Wants, they we will not have room enough to keep them or they could become a burden or a distraction to us in our service to Him. Again, since Wants are really never appreciated, we could someday abuse the privilege of asking and receiving thus derailing from the path of righteousness.

How do I receive from God? John 14:16, Matt. 7-8
1                    Ask in the name of Jesus
2                    Ask until you receive or until it is given you
3                    Ask until your joy is full
4                    Seek until you fine
5                    Knock until the door is open.

The only thing we can receive from God is what He has promise to give us – our Need. Phil 4:19
The Lord didn’t assure us that we will receive the very first time or day we ask Him of anything. He is also aware that they could be delays or hindrances to our demands. Dan. 10:12-13, Eccl. 3:1, 11,, Ps. 66:18, James. 4:3

CONCLUSION: No one can call on the name Jesus and get a response if he has no relationship with Him. My sheep knows my voice… John 10:27. You must be genuinely born again before you can receive from Him. You cannot reap from where you did not sow Being in church is not a guarantee that you are save. You must be convinced that you are genuinely saved before you can begin to demand from Him.
